Description
The gotu cola is a small, annual plant of the family Mackinlayaceae. It is a plant that is native to certain parts of Asia such as India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia. In Sri Lanka the leaves are prepared as malluma (accompaniment of rice), in Indonesia are used in salads, in Vietnam and Thailand are used to product drinks. In China, gotu cola is used for over 2000 years and is referred as "the miraculous elixir of life" - the name was given by the LiChing-Yun, a herbalist that it rumored he lived 256 years. In modern herbal medicine, it is used for a wide range of health problems. This herb is considered to have sedative and calming properties. It is claimed that affects on the central nervous system while increasing concentration of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) in the brain. Because of this action , it is considered that it has a positive impact on memory and concentration ability .
