The Dittany is an endemic phrygana of Crete and is grown up in all the mountains of the island, not only in Dicti mountain. It spreads from thesea level up to 1,600m. in precipices and canyons exclusively. It is a small plant with a length of 30-40 cm. and a very strong smell and taste. Its leaves are relatively small but plump and are covered by fluff and its flowers have purple color. The dittany has antiseptic, tonic and antispasmodic action. Moreover, it is used for healing wounds, as a soothing of digestive system as well as against flu and colds. It acts as an anticonvulsant and contributes to prevent from circulatory and heart problems. Dittany relieves from headaches and stomach problems, toothaches and gumboils. It also acts as an antidiabetic, emmenagogue and as an aphrodisiac.
