Description
Chamomile is an annual, herbaceous plant and its scientific name is Chamomilla. The genus includes about 70 species and the best known is Chamomilla recutita or Matricaria chamomilla. This specie is grown in Greece which is known as chamomile and in Cyprus is known as mougiochorto. On the common chamomile, the flowers are divided into inflorescences that look particularly to those of the daisy. The name means apple which is down on the ground. It is an aromatic and pharmaceutical plant. It has smooth stems and it is twiggy. Chamomile has sedative, tonic and antiseptic properties. It also acts against the flatulence. By the distillation of the flowers, a precious essential oil is taken.
