Viola is a widespread, European, wild flower which we find in gardens throughout the world. The heart's ease was used in the 16th century in cases of skin diseases and in herbal medicine in England. In folk medicine, it was used for epilepsy, asthma, skin diseases and eczema (particularly in children). In modern herbal medicine, the heart's ease is used externally for treating skin diseases such as eczema and acne and internally (as concoction) for rheumatoid arthritis and respiratory disorders.
