The benzoin grows in Siam, Java, Sumatra and is fragrant. It is an arboreal shrub with 2-7m height which depends on the location.The plant's name comes from the Arabic "zavan". In modern herbal medicine, the benzoin is used as an antiseptic and it has fungicidal properties.It is used externally against insipid ulcers, against the mange and especially against the amenorrhea, the liquid asthma and tuberculosis.
