The centaury is a tiny, annual or biennial herb. The stalk grows up to 30 cm and is branched enough on top where is surrounded by small leaves. It grows up in wet, shady locations, in ledges and meadows. Its Leaves are opposites and the stems and leaves are hairless. Centaury has a bitter taste and is tonic, appetizing, and digestive. It is also ascorbic, very effective for heartburn and stimulates the blood circulation. In Europe, the centaury is used against anemia, liver diseases and gallbladder. It is laxative and when is taken after meals, it is an excellent treatment for heartburn.
