Guarana is the sacred plant of the Indians of the Amazon who used it for food, as medicine and as refreshment. The Indians were producing and drinking guarana to face the heat, moisture, physical fatigue, aches, fever. In Brazil, guarana is known as the elixir of youth, because the residents believe that gives psychophysical wellbeing and longevity, while the Ministry of Health of the country considers this as one of the main therapeutic herbs.
