Description
The gentian is a perennial plant that is found in the mountains of Northern and Central Europe. It has yellow flowers and reaches a height of 1-2m. The root contains the most bitter substances we find in nature - these substances are used today as a scientific basis for measuring bitterness. Historically, gentian has taken its name from the King Genthio (181-168 BC) who according to the legend discovered the medicinal properties. According to Dioscorides Gentian was appropriate to treat snake bites and during the Middle Ages was used for the treatment of wounds and sores.In modern herbal medicine, the Gentian is considered as one of the best herbs to enhance patients who recover and as a tonic of gastrointestinal system.
