The goat is a plant that comes from the Middle East, but now is cultivated in large areas of Europe and Asia. Its name comes from synthetic -Gale (milk) and -Ega (fetch). In modern herbal medicine, the goat is used for treating diabetes and reducing body weight. In the first case, the active substance (alkaloid) galegin has properties similar to the synthetic substance guanidine. In the second case, studies have shown that consumption of goat leads to significant weight loss. The weight loss is also shown to be related to the reduction of blood glucose.
