The pennyroyal has named by the Roman Pliny because of its ability to remove fleas - pulex (in Latin), pulce (in Italian) and puce (in French). The leaves are small, 6 to 20 mm. in length and 0.5-10mm in width with small stem. Both surfaces of the leaves are distinctly fluffy. The flowers start from the middle and top of the stem and they are pink or violet. It is an aromatic - medicinal plant. The essential oil is used in perfumery and soaps. It is considered as expectorant, diuretic, antispasmodic, anesthetic. Also, it is used since antiquity until today as flavoring in cooking and in winery. It is used as a spice primarily in desserts and drinks but also in many dishes and sauces.
