The elder is a group of 30 plants that thrive in temperate and subtropical regions of the northern hemisphere mainly. The leaves, the flowers and the fruits of elder are useful. In modern herbal medicine the elder is mainly used to treat influence. Two independent clinical research published in 2004 showed that the consumption of elder decreases considerably the symptoms and the recovery time from the flu (both type A and type B). The elder contains more nitrate than any herb and is rich in many vitamins (especially A, B, C). It is combined with peppermint, yarrow or hyssop for colds and fever and with agrimony for flu.
