    Description

The chinchona is a genus of South American plants. The genus chinchona comprises approximately about 35 species in tropical regions. The most important of these are pharmaceuticals and alkaloid quinine is extracted from the bark. The chinchona trees reach up to 15-20m height usually with lush foliage. They have small, white or pink flowers with a nice smell. The importance of chinchona is known by the fact that there is in the national emblem of Peru. Then, the use of the bark was brought to Europe by Spanish explorers.
